The “Unified Sports Partner Programme (USPP)” co-organized by Moon Chun Memorial College and Macau Special Olympics (MSO) officially started in October 2020 and ended smoothly in December. This programme attracted sixteen participants, participating in sports including bowling, badminton, bocce and comprehensive sports. Most of the participants have completed more than ten hours of service. Among the participants of this year’s programme, ninety percent of them were participants of last year’s programme, which showed their commitment to this volunteer service. At the high table dinner on October 22, Mr. Hetzer Siu, the chief executive officer of MSO , awarded Certificates of Participation to the participants as a recognition of their contribution in USPP 2019.

While supporting people with intellectual disabilities to participate in sports, MCM College also pays special attention to the positive interaction between youth and athletes with intellectual disabilities to promote development of “social inclusion”. Therefore, before the start of the programme, MCM college specially invited MSA psychological counselor and social worker to provide training workshop for participants to learn the communication skills of getting along with people with intellectual disabilities. This programme takes “social inclusion” as the core service concept, hoping that through the platform of integrated sports, young people and people with intellectual disabilities can become sports partners, display similar abilities and team spirit in the group, and share sports experience and fun together. The plan is to deepen young people’s understanding of people with intellectual disabilities, and to understand and appreciate each other in their sports, and work together to build an inclusive community.
