Badminton
Badminton is one of the most popular sports at the University of Macau, and the Badminton Interest Group at Moon Chun Memorial College offers students a great opportunity to experience this sport! Playing badminton not only improves physical and mental health, but also fosters friendships and allows students to make new friends. We provide a dedicated, free court every week for students, and we also host team and individual badminton tournaments at the beginning and end of the academic year.
Whether you’re a seasoned badminton fan or a newbie, we welcome you to join us and look forward to seeing you on the court

Collegiate basketball has been a very popular sport on UM’s CICA calendar for the past decade. It is a fast-paced, exciting game that features talented young players competing against each other in thrilling matches. The hype evolved from the sport goes as far back as high school competitions where top talents are picked by college scouts. Moreover, CICA matches often feature passionate student sections and intense rivalries across the collegiate community, creating an electric atmosphere, and giving fans a chance to see future stars before they reach their full potential.

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian cultural practice – simultaneously a fight and a dance – interpreted as a tradition, a sport and even an art form. Particiants form a circle, around two ‘players’ who engage in acrobatic and complex manoeuvres: involving hands on the ground and inverted kicks. Capoeira emphasizes flowing movements rather than fixed stances. Other participants around the circle sing, chant, clap and play percussive instruments. The Capoeira master is the bearer and guardian of the knowledge of the circle, and teaches the repertoire to maintain the group’s cohesion and its observance to a ritual code.

Originally from Angola, Africa and derived from the word Kimbundo which means party and Semba, another dance style. Kizomba emerged as a way to express emotion about what was happening/what was being felt in Portugal during the Angolan Civil War and the War with Portugal. Comprised of two partners who begin the two step movements in half time to music that strongly resembles the Latin Merengue, dance movements focus heavily on sensual hip rolls and hip movements. Because the Kizomba dance steps begin with basic choreography, it is the sound of the music that encourages the body movements. Over time, Traditional Kizomba has morphed into Urban, Modern, and Fusion Kizomba, among other styles.

Soccer is still considered as the world’s most beautiful game. Yet, its simple and elegant style of play has a universal appeal that attracts players and fans from all corners of the world. When the season commences in August, all teams begin preparing for the upcoming CICA competition in November against opponents from different colleges. The second part of the season is often referred to physical training and tactical development in which coaches help players practice and develop what was taught in the first part.

Table Tennis
Table tennis, or ping pong, may be a game of entertainment for some, but in all honesty, it takes a lot of hard work and concentration. Members of this interest group spend hours learning new serves, working on their spin, and participating in fast paced games against each other during training.
While for some students who represent the college team, and want to seriously improve their skills, others just simply want to enjoy themselves. Table tennis is different from other interest groups because of the group’s atmosphere and mentality. It’s just really fun, not too strict – but a laid-back environment for all.
