The award initiated at universities across Oxford and Cambridge in England. Since its inception in 2013, MCM College followed this tradition of awarding College Blues to its members: fellows and affiliates, students and distinuished guests, for sporting prowess, artistic excellence and distinctive contribution to MCMC. The tradition also celebrates aptitude and accomplishment in MCMC events and activities.
The award has three progressive levels:

| Half Blue (HB) awarded to the top 10%. |
Full Blue (FB) awarded to the top 3%. |
Double Blue (DB) is the highest honoure bestowed on MCM College members with celebrated prowess and distinctive accomplishments. |
