On Saturday, 18th April, 2015, Moon Chun Memorial College hosted Girton College Chapel Choir, an international-prize-winning choir, recognised for its impressive musical standards and recordings.

Under direction of Director of Music, Dr. Martin Ennis, the Choir sang to a capacity auditorium of faculty, students and distinguished guests from Macau and Hong Kong, including UM Rector, Prof. Wei Zhao; Vice-Rector of Student Affairs, Prof. Haydn Chen, former UM Chairman Dr Daniel Tse, Robert Ness, Director of the British Council and Henry Brockman, Chairman of the British Business Association of Macau.
“From Tudors to Tippett – and Beyond” encompassed religious and secular, English madrigal and folksong to music of a lighter nature.
Selected works ranged over Vaughan Williams and Tippett, – ‘Child of Our Time’, to Mendelssohn and Bruckner, and special interpretation of the classic Chinese folksong ‘Mo Li Hua’/‘茉莉花’.
Girton College Chapel Choir is regarded as one of the best choirs in Cambridge, and has toured the world, giving performances in venues ranging from the Old Imperial Chapel in Mexico City to temples in Malaysia.
Highlights have included a performance for Pope John Paul ll in the Vatican and a concert for the UN in Bangkok at the invitation of UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan. The choir was a prizewinner at the Takarazuka International Competition in Japan and also the Spittal International Competition in Austria, and it has made many recordings, most recently for BBC Radio 4. Over the years, the choir has worked with many distinguished musicians, including Sir David Willcocks of King’s College Choir, University of Cambridge, Judith Clurman, Director of the Choral Programme, Juilliard School, New York.
The choir was scheduled to perform in Hong Kong during its Pacific Asian visit and to record at RTHK (Radio and Television Hong Kong).
